Popular opinion is that sensitive people are more afraid. In fact, I’ve heard a counsellor say “sensitive is just unsorted phobia.”
However, this isn’t quite accurate.
Sensitive people are NOT more afraid than others. They just like to analyse their fears more carefully. Rather than jump into something new or dangerous, they think about whether the jump is worth the risk. Sensitive people heed the old adage “look before you leap.”
In my article “How to Overcome Your Fears as an HSP” published at Highly Sensitive Refuge I explain the science behind why highly sensitive people are so cautious.
I also explore 5 strategies to help anyone (sensitive or otherwise) overcome their fears.
