The Healing Community

The Healing Community

There was something unique about the kind of healing Jesus brought. Yes, he healed ‎sickness. But he did much more. He restored people’s dignity and reiterated their worth. He ‎awakened people’s spirits, kindling them to join his work. He rebuilt broken communities, ‎and he called people with no one as his own family. Jesus saw more than just the body and heard ‎more than just questions. He saw the image of God tucked in the depths of each person who ‎came to him. And he breathed into them, until they were brimming and overflowing with his ‎life.‎

Isn’t this the kind of healing that the world craves? We want healing that goes beyond the ‎body to restore the whole person.

As followers of Jesus in the healing profession, we ‎want to provide this boundless health. But how do we do it? Do we even have the capacity or ‎the time to care to this extent?‎

During the 2025 Consultation, CMC Vellore reflected on her 125 years of existence. What ‎we began to see is that none of us is asked to provide this kind of healing alone. We are ‎invited to partner with God in healing, not by ourselves, but as communities of Jesus’ ‎apprentices. He brings together people with varied passions, skills and training. He calls us siblings. And he sends us out as healing teams to cater to different aspects of ‎people’s needs. ‎

This book compiles the collective wisdom of the CMC community on ‎how we can build healing teams by ‎

    • Understanding God’s vision, ‎
    • Seeing where he is moving, ‎
    • Being willing to be moved with him, ‎
    • Appreciating the agency of the people we serve and the people who serve with us,‎
    • Healing our communities through simple, loving practices and
    • Being a child at heart, always willing to learn and grow
